The City of Vallejo announced it had elevated Interim Fire Chief Kyle Long to fill the role on a permanent basis.
The announcement comes less than four months after former fire chief, Daryl Arbuthnott, announced his departure from the city in order to pursue other opportunities.
Long was tapped to serve as the city’s fire chief on a temporary basis following Arbuthnott’s resignation. At this week’s city council meeting, Interim City Manager Anne Cardwell announced Long was selected to fill the role on a permanent basis.
“Chief Long has dedicated 18 years of his life to the Vallejo Fire Department and brings not only legacy knowledge to this role, but also exceptional leadership and a love for this community and his staff,” Caldwell said in a statement e-mailed to reporters on Wednesday, adding that his selection was “an easy and obvious one to make.”
Long joined the Vallejo Fire Department in 2003. He initially served as a firefighter paramedic before being promoted to the role of fire captain, and later to the position of battalion chief.
In his own statement, Long said he was humbled by the opportunity to serve in the top position within the Vallejo Fire Department.
“I will continue to serve the community with dedication and compassion as the Fire Chief,” Long said. “I look forward to working with Interim City Manager Anne Cardwell, Mayor McConnell, and the City Council. I am also appreciative of the ongoing support from the dedicated Firefighters and staff at the Vallejo Fire Department.”
