Officers with the Vacaville Police Department helped dissolve an underground exhibition of sports cars on Friday.
The exhibition, known as a “sideshow,” started organizing around 9 p.m. in the shared parking lot of the Walmart store and Sprouts Farmer’s Market along Helen Power Drive.
Sideshows typically come together on social media platforms and are often held on alternating weekends. The events have been reported in nearly every city in Solano County since last summer and typically draw participants and spectators from throughout Northern California.
The events often involve dozens or hundreds of participants illegally taking over parking lots of private businesses and public spaces. Property damage caused by street racing and cars doing “donuts” is common.
Police have tried to crack down on sideshows in recent months by tracking and impounding vehicles. Earlier this month, the Fairfield Police Department impounded three vehicles that were connected to a sideshow. During that sideshow, one participant was arrested and a passenger injured after a high-speed crash on a county road in rural Solano County.
