A head-on crash that sent three people to the hospital was connected to a sideshow that impacted several Solano County communities on Saturday, the Fairfield Police Department said in an evening social media post.
The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. along Vanden Road near Canon Road as police in Vacaville and Fairfield were working to deter sideshow activity.
A driver of a vehicle involved in the sideshow tried to pass another at a high rate of speed, which resulted in the head-on collision, officers said.
Three people were injured in the crash, including 23-year-old Christian Placencia of Pittsburg, who will be tried on felony reckless driving charges once he recovers, police said. Placencia’s passenger, identified only as a female, suffered traumatic injuries and required extrication from the vehicle.
Despite the crash, the sideshow activity continues, eventually making its way to Suisun City where officers attempted to push the cars off Highway 12. A crowd of a few hundred people eventually caused the shutdown of the freeway at Pennsylvania Avenue, police said.
