A teenager from Vallejo was arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with a late evening fatal shooting in that city.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. along Sonoma Boulevard and Lemon Street. As first reported by Solano NewsNet, the shooting victim was taken to a nearby gas station by a friend, who then called police for help.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. He was identified by the Vallejo Police Department as a 29-year-old from Richmond. His name was being withheld as of Wednesday afternoon because his family has not yet been notified.
Eyewitness information led police to an apartment complex along the 1100 block of Porter Street, where a late-night raid was carried out. Police detained several people, including the 17-year-old suspect. The suspect was arrested and booked into Solano County’s juvenile detention center; the alleged murder weapon was eventually recovered, police said.
The shooting was the city’s sixth recorded homicide of the year. It comes at a time when local police officials, frustrated by the increase in violent and dangerous crime, have appealed to city leaders for solutions.
This week, the Vallejo Police Department issued a statement urging city officials to approve the rollout of new technology, including traffic surveillance cameras, that the agency said could help reduce crime.
