Vallejo police investigate evening shooting near Lemon Street

The Vallejo Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person injured on Tuesday.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Sonoma Boulevard and Lemon Circle, according to police dispatches.
The shooting victim was taken to a nearby gas station by a friend, who then called police for help. Fire medics treated the victim for a gunshot wound; the victim was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.
A short time later, police received several eyewitness reports that a person connected to the shooting was seen entering an apartment along the 1100 block of Porter Street. Eyewitnesses told police that the person was armed with a long gun that resembled an assault rifle.
Police described the suspect as a Black male wearing a bright orange hooded sweatshirt. Additional suspect information was not available.
There is a heavy police presence at both scenes.
