A Suisun City educator who is accused of sex crimes involving a former student in his third grade class has been released from jail after posting bail, Solano NewsNet has learned.
Stephen Gallagher, 54, of Fairfield was arrested earlier this month after prosecutors said they’d investigated claims made by a former student of several instances of sexual abuse.
Court records reviewed by Solano NewsNet revealed the student, who was identified only by their initials, was also residing with Gallagher at the time of the alleged abuse. Prosecutors say the incidents took place between August 2016 and June 2017.
It was not clear when the student lodged their complaint against Gallagher. A judge signed a warrant for his arrest following a complaint filed by the district attorney’s office in mid-January. He was arrested at his Fairfield home on February 5, police said.
Gallagher has since been released after posting nearly $200,000 in bail, according to court records. He has not entered a plea in the case, and his next court appearance is scheduled for early April.
Gallagher has worked as an educator with the Fairfield-Suisun City School District since 1999, according to a now-deleted social media profile reviewed by Solano NewsNet. Last week, officials with the school district said he was removed from the classroom and placed on leave after his arrest.
