A woman who was found deceased in an apartment last week has been identified by a family member as 36-year-old Erika Valencia-Avelino of Fairfield.
Valencia-Avelino was found stabbed to death in her Fairfield apartment by police after officers received a call from a child inside the unit, Solano NewsNet reported last week.
Her boyfriend, 34-year-old Hugo Avelino-Medina, was quickly identified as a suspect in Valencia-Avelino’s killing. His vehicle was tracked to Marin County several hours after the incident, and he was apprehended in San Rafael early Friday afternoon.
Shortly before the alleged murder, Avelino-Medina made several cryptic posts on social media, according to screen captures obtained by Solano NewsNet. In one post, he complained that he was the victim of cyberbullying.
“They made fun of someone they shouldn’t have,” the comment, written in Spanish, said. “Nobody puts me in my place.”
Later in the comment, Avelino-Medina appears to apologize to his children, writing, “I love you.”
Avelino-Medina was booked into Solano County jail on one count of murder and on a separate probation violation charge. In a press release on Saturday, the Fairfield Police Department said Avelino-Medina was also charged with various domestic violence offenses.
The suspect was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday, but his arraignment was delayed until Wednesday morning.
