A rare summer moisture system will dump a decent amount of rain on parts of Solano County early Sunday morning before hot and gusty weather set in.
The storm system could dump as much as 0.02 inches of rain in parts of Vacaville, Fairfield, Dixon and Rio Vista, according to various weather forecasts published late Saturday evening.
Higher elevation areas of the Sacramento valley and Sierra foothills could see better rain chances, with a half-inch to a full inch of rain possible in those areas.
By Sunday afternoon, the rainy weather will yield to gusty wind and warmer temperatures, which has the potential to spark new wildfires in parts of Northern California.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento have issued a Fire Weather Watch for portions of the Sacramento region, including most of Solano County, from late Sunday evening until early Tuesday evening.
“As the Eastern Pacific high builds inland Sunday night into early next week, some gusty north to east winds are expected, especially along the western half of the Sacramento valley,” a forecaster with the weather office wrote in a bulletin on Saturday. “This could result in increased fire weather concerns.”
In a Fire Weather message, forecasters said daytime humidity could drop to the low teens, with overnight humidity between 20 and 50 percent.
“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly,” forecasters said. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”
As is typical with these types of alerts, forecasters said residents in covered areas should monitor local media in case the alert is upgraded to a Red Flag Warning.
