The Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) says it may have to turn off electrical power service to around 100,000 Northern California residents this weekend.
The move, known as a public safety power shut-off (PSPS), is intended to prevent damaging wildfires in areas where forecasts call for possible extreme fire weather.
PG&E released a list of 15 counties where a PSPS is likely over the weekend due to extreme fire danger. Solano County was not on the list, but portions of nearby Napa and Lake counties are affected.
PG&E can modify outage zones due to shifts in weather. Customers can look up their address to see if their location is covered by an upcoming PSPS at any time by visiting PG&E’s PSPS Updates webpage.
Though Solano County is not expected to lose power through a planned PSPS, nearly all of the county is covered by a Red Flag Warning from Saturday evening through Monday morning. Forecasters with the National Weather Service say gusty wind coupled with low humidity and hot temperatures will create extreme conditions that could lead to dangerous wildfires.
