The National Weather Service in Sacramento has upgraded a Fire Weather Watch issued for this weekend to a Red Flag Warning.
The warning covers all of Solano County except for the city of Vallejo. It also covers Yolo County west of the Sacramento river.
The Red Flag Warning starts Saturday evening and lasts until Monday morning.
"Gusty northerly and easterly winds will develop over portions of the Sacramento Valley, the northern Sierra and western foothills, and the Coastal Range late Saturday evening into Monday morning," a weather forecaster said in a bulletin issued by the National Weather Service on Friday. "Daytime humidity will be extremely low in the single digits to teens with poor overnight humidity recoveries.”
Forecasters say a combination of low humidity, gusty wind and hot weather “will result in critical fire weather conditions” that could exacerbate current wildfires and result in new fires that spread quickly.
The weather agency says wind is expected to be between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts at times up to 55 miles per hour in some areas.
“Numerous wildfires are already occurring,” the weather agency said. “Extreme fire safety precautions should be exercised to prevent any additional fires. Outdoor burning should be avoided.”
