Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento have issued a Hard Freeze Watch for most of Northern California, including all of Solano County.
The Freeze Watch starts Tuesday at 3 a.m. and lasts through 9 a.m.
Meteorologists say temperatures in the area could dip to as low as 25 degrees, which could cause frozen water pipes and kill sensitive plants.
“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” a bulletin issued by the weather forecast office said. “To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”
Pets that are normally kept outdoors during the evening should be brought inside.
The Freeze Watch kicks off what is expected to be a wet and, at times, stormy week throughout Northern California. Heavy rain and gusty wind could start as early as Tuesday evening, according to forecasters.
