A stretch of Interstate 80 that was briefly closed overnight after a fatal officer-involved shooting is now re-open to traffic.
Last night, CHP officers were involved in a shooting with at least one person along the west-bound lanes of Interstate 80 parallel to Oday Road and near the Midway Road off-ramp.
The exact circumstances of what led up to the shooting remain unknown at this time, but CHP officers were dispatched to a report of a solo vehicle crash around 10:30 p.m. About a half-hour later, a CHP officer reported they had one person at gunpoint near the crash scene. Moments later, a dispatch came across the radio that said shots had been fired.
A medical crew was dispatched to the scene, but the suspect was pronounced dead a short time later. His identity has not been released.
CHP officials were assisted by law enforcement partners from the Solano County Sheriff’s Department and the Dixon Police Department in processing the crime scene. The Vacaville Police Department and CalTrans helped provide traffic control on the freeway and nearby Oday Road, with several lanes closed throughout the overnight hours.
All lanes of traffic were re-opened to vehicles early Sunday morning.
