A Vacaville woman who lost many belongings in an apartment fire earlier this month has received a generous $1,000 donation thanks to the efforts of a firefighter who was on scene.
Solano News Update was the only local news organization to report on the fire when it broke out at an apartment complex along the 1700 block of Marshall Road earlier this month.
The fire was located in a chimney of an upstairs apartment unit and was contained to the roof area, according to fire dispatches reviewed by Solano News Update. But water being used to fight the blaze gushed into a downstairs unit where Monica Campbell lived.
Campbell, a military mom with two daughters, lost several of her belongings due to water damage, dispatches revealed. The Red Cross was called out to assist, and Campbell was eventually relocated to another unit within the apartment complex.
When it came to replacing Campbell’s belongings, one Vacaville firefighter who was on the scene decided to step in and help.
Fire Engineer Brian Bauthier put together a proposal for the Vacaville City Firefighters Charity Fund seeking a donation of $1,000 to help Campbell get back on her feet. The board unanimously approved the proposal, and Bauthier delivered a prepaid gift card to Campbell last week.
Bauthier also secured another $250 donation from a different firefighting charity, according to KOVR-TV (Channel 13).
“It restores my faith in humanity,” Campbell told the news station.
Campbell said some of the money will be used to buy Christmas gifts for her daughters.
