Blaze in fireplace draws Vacaville crews to apartment
(Graphic by Solano News Update)
A fireplace was the source of a fire that caused the evacuation of several apartments in Vacaville on Saturday.
Around 4:45 a.m., police and fire were dispatched to a report of an apartment unit on fire along the 1700 block of Marshall Road.
Police confirmed a fireplace in an upstairs unit was the source of the blaze, but it had spread to the exterior walls and roof of the apartment building by the time firefighters arrived.
It was not clear if there was anyone inside the apartment unit at the time of the fire. Several nearby units were evacuated as a precaution.
No further information was available as of early Saturday morning.
The apartment complex was the scene of a multi-alarm grass fire in September. At least one unit was damage in that blaze. Police later questioned a juvenile in connection with the start of the fire.
