A two-alarm grass fire that briefly spread to an apartment complex on Monday is being investigated by police and fire officials as arson.
Fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of Beelard Dr. and Marshall Rd. around 4:30 p.m. on Monday after numerous residents reported seeing smoke in the creek bed near Putah Creek.
The fire jumped the creek bed and spread to a roof at Building 10 of the Hidden Creek apartments, triggering a two-alarm structure protection response. The fire on the roof was quickly extinguished.
Residents told police they spotted at least one juvenile in the area around the start of the fire, according to dispatches. A juvenile suspect was detained by police at a home near the scene of the fire.
Vacaville police and fire investigators are treating the incident as a suspected case of arson.
A Facebook post by the Vacaville Fire Department said public works crews would be in the area throughout the night tending to burned trees that will need to be removed. Vacaville firefighters will also remain on scene to deal with smouldering brush in the area of the blaze.
