The Fairfield Police Department has identified a man who fled from them during a domestic violence investigation last week.
Zaire Dunlap, 24, of San Francisco was arrested last Wednesday after police say he fled from them during a domestic violence investigation.
Solano NewsNet was the first to report on the circumstances of the police investigation, which began with a text-to-911 message from Dunlap’s partner complaining about alleged criminal threats while the couple was in Suisun City.
When police attempted to contact the partner, Dunlap fled from officers in his girlfriend’s vehicle. A brief pursuit wound through several Fairfield neighborhoods before coming to an end when Dunlap crashed the car into an electrical box near the intersection of Cement Hill Road and Dover Avenue.
The suspect fled from police on foot, jumping over several backyard fences. Police closed the area to traffic and established a perimeter as they tried to find exactly where the suspect went. He was eventually located in the backyard shed of a home along the 600 block of Cement Hill Road, Solano NewsNet reported.
On Monday, police said they were able to recover a loaded firearm with an extended magazine that was reported missing during the pursuit.
Dunlap was booked into jail on several felony charges, including assaulting a person with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and making criminal threats.
The police department said it has a special unit that can investigate domestic violence incidents, including a team of detectives, a victim’s advocate and a police technician who has special knowledge and training needed to investigate domestic violence, sex abuse and child abuse crimes.
The agency said anyone who is a victim of domestic violence should reach out to officers by calling the Family Victim Advocate at 707-428-7770 or the police department’s main number at 707-428-7600. All reports are kept confidential.
