Cooling centers open throughout Solano County during extreme heat

In the classic 90’s sitcom Married…with Children, protagonist Al “Four Touchdowns in a Single Game” Bundy moves his family into a local supermarket after an attempt to fix the air conditioner results in a massive power outage for his neighborhood on a hot summer day.
Supermarket managers typically frown on the idea of a person moving their entire family to the frozen food section, even during a heat wave. Thankfully, there are other public spots that are designated as community cooling centers when the thermometer hits triple-digits.
In Vacaville, city officials have opened the McBride Senior Center (91 Town Square Place, Vacaville) as a cooling center. The center will be operational Tuesday, June 21 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
In Suisun City, a cooling center has been opened at the Nelson Community Center (611 Village Drive, Suisun City) from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
All branches of the Solano County Library are also designated cooling centers during normal business hours, including:
Dixon Library (230 North First Street)
Fairfield Civic Center Library (1150 Kentucky Street)
Cordelia Library (5050 Business Center Drive, Fairfield)
John F. Kennedy Library (505 Santa Clara Street, Vallejo)
Rio Vista Library (44 South Second Street)
Suisun City Library (601 Pintail Drive)
Vacaville Cultural Center Library (1020 Ulatis Drive)
Vacaville Town Square Library (1 Town Square Place)
As additional cooling centers are announced, Solano NewsNet will provide an updated list via our social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. If you live or work in Solano County, you can also join our real-time Facebook group for the latest information and breaking news.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service have issued a Heat Advisory for Tuesday. The advisory covers all of Solano County, with temperatures expected to reach triple-digits in all seven cities and the rural area.
The advisory period lasts until Wednesday evening.
For those who are staying indoors during the hot weather and who are looking for something to watch on TV, all episodes of Married…with Children are available to stream on Hulu.
