Officers with the Vacaville Police Department detained an Elmira man following a foot pursuit near a grocery store Wednesday afternoon.
Brandon Barron, 28, was located inside a shed at a home on Kingman Drive following a chase that started with a hit-and-run investigation on a nearby freeway onramp.
Around 3 p.m., Vacaville officers were called to assist the California Highway Patrol at a scene of a crash on the Davis Street on-ramp to Interstate 80. There, an eyewitness told officers they saw a man flee the scene and enter a nearby WinCo Foods supermarket.
An officer noted the description of the hit-and-run suspect matched that of an individual involved in a robbery and armed assault at a Vacaville jewelry store earlier in the day.
Police identified Barron from a license plate attached to a sedan involved in the crash. When they attempted to engage Barron at the supermarket, he fled from officers and jumped over a wall separating the store from a nearby residential neighborhood.
With the assistance of a CHP helicopter, officers canvassed the neighborhood. About an hour later, they confronted Barron inside a shed at a home along Kingman Drive where he was taken into custody.
Barron was taken to the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Vacaville after sustaining an injury during the encounter. His connection to the earlier robbery remains unknown.
