A pair of catalytic converter theft busts and a serious fire that damaged two homes in Fairfield lead our Weekly Wrap-Up for Monday, May 9, 2022. This week: Two cities debate tougher fireworks fines, and the weather starts to heat up in some parts of the region.
Over the Weekend
FAIRFIELD: Firefighters rushed to the scene of a two-alarm residential fire that broke out on Highland Circle. Officials said the blaze was contained to two homes and was quickly knocked down. Meanwhile, fire officials posted aerial footage on social media from a recent roof blaze that broke out at a CVS Pharmacy earlier in the week. The footage showed extensive damage to the roof of the retailer, which is still closed.
DIXON: The Dixon Chamber of Commerce wrapped up this week’s Dixon May Fair with the annual parade through town. It was the first time since the coronavirus pandemic started that the Dixon May Fair held in-person festivities. Hundreds of people attended the four-day fair, which included rides, animal attractions and live entertainment.
SUISUN CITY: An alert neighbor helped police in Suisun City bust a pair of suspected thieves. The incident took place around 4 a.m. when the resident thought they saw a catalytic converter theft in progress. The citizen was able to provide enough detail to police for a traffic stop a short time later, where officers say they found a freshly-cut catalytic converter and other items that were indicative of theft.
VACAVILLE: A major roadway was closed for several hours on Sunday after a serious traffic crash in the city. The crash happened near the intersection of Alamo Drive and Vanden Road. What led up to the crash was not clear, nor was it known if anyone was injured. Police say they are still looking for information about the incident and have urged eyewitnesses to call them at (707) 449-5200.
BENICIA: City officials have ordered an immediate 30 percent reduction in water use after a concrete pipe burst at a water treatment plant on Sunday. For more information on this story, click or tap here.
The Week Ahead
VACAVILLE: The Pleasants Valley Fire Safe Council is expected to receive an update on the county’s recent preliminary approval of over $1 million to upgrade emergency radios for the county’s firefighting fleet. The Fire Safe Council’s meeting takes place Monday at 5:30 p.m. and can be streamed via Zoom. The Solano County Board of Supervisors will finalize its approval to allocate the funds at its meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
SOLANO COUNTY: The County Board of Supervisors will discuss a plan to move nearly $7.3 million in coronavirus relief funding to various water infrastructure projects. Among the projects is a proposal to spend $740,000 upgrading the public water system at Lake Solano Park and $250,000 for a study that would evaluate the feasibility of restarting the City of Vallejo’s Cache Slough pumping plant. The meeting takes place Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Fairfield and can be streamed online.
VALLEJO: The city council will debate an updated ordinance that will spell out fines for people who shoot off illegal fireworks in the city. Proposed finds will include administrative fees of $1,000. Officials said illegal fireworks use caused around $1 million in damage to homes and other property last year. The meeting takes place Tuesday at 7 p.m. and can be streamed online.
VACAVILLE: City officials will also finalize a proposal to update the town’s anti-fireworks ordinance with stricter liability and tougher fines. The proposal was unanimously approved at last month’s city council meeting, and must be discussed and approved a second time before it is finalized. The council meeting takes place Tuesday at 6 p.m. and can be streamed online or viewed on Comcast cable channel 26.
