A much-anticipated storm spurred thunderstorms, hail and funnel clouds in parts of the Sacramento Valley region on Thursday, but not in our local area.
Instead, Solano County was greeted with mostly pleasant weather during the morning and afternoon hours, with clouds building up and the occasional rain shower in parts of north Solano by Thursday evening.
Around 6:30 p.m., weather radar indicated a strong storm cell pushing up from the Concord area into rural Solano County near the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 113. That cell quickly dissipated as it moved northeast, but not before drenching the road there.
In Cordelia, a small amount of rain fell around 7 p.m., with that shower moving through western portions of Fairfield, Vacaville and Winters before it disbanded entirely.
It was a much busier scene east of Solano County where a strong storm cell triggered a tornado warning around 5 p.m. for portions of Highway 12 east of Wallace. The storm cell spurred a funnel cloud that was visible on a wildfire camera in Valley Springs, but no tornado ever formed.
Showers are expected to continue overnight and through the day on Friday for the San Joaquin Valley and portions of the eastern Sacramento Valley. Things will be quieter and much more pleasant locally, with Solano County expecting mostly cloudy but otherwise dry weather throughout the day.
The occasional rain shower may still pop up in portions of Solano County, especially in parts of Fairfield and Vacaville, but otherwise the storm activity is largely over for our part of the region, forecasters said.
High temperatures will be in the upper 60s for North Solano and in the mid-60s for Vallejo and Benicia. Rio Vista could see a high temperature of 70 degrees on Friday.
Over the weekend, things dry out across the region. It will be mostly sunny and pleasant Saturday throughout Solano County. Sunday will live up to its name with few clouds in the sky and even warmer temperatures that could top 80 degrees.
Next week will be a good opportunity to garden, with seasonable temperatures in the mid-70s to low-80s and plenty of sunshine.
