The Vallejo Police Department has hired Joseph Kreins, its former police chief, to serve as the agency’s interim deputy chief.
The announcement was made in a press release distributed to reporters and posted to social media last week.
Kreins will join Michael Kihmm, the newly-appointed deputy police chief, in the role, the agency said on Thursday. He was hired as the Vallejo’s interim police chief in 2012 before becoming the city’s full-time, permanent chief two years later.
Since his departure from Vallejo, Kreins has served as the interim chief of police in several nearby cities, including Suisun City and Benicia in Solano County and Winters in nearby Yolo County. His career also includes serving in the Novato, Clayton and Concord police departments.
“We are pleased to welcome back former Vallejo Police Chief Joseph Kreins as the Interim Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Vallejo,” an agency spokesperson wrote in a Facebook post.
Kreins will be sworn in on Monday, December 7.
