The Vallejo Police Department has identified a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old last week, and they are asking for the public to come forward with tips that lead to his arrest.
This week, the law enforcement agency said Demark Anthony Bernstine, 28, of Richmond was wanted in connection with the homicide of a 15-year-old, who was fatally struck by gunfire on July 14.
The teen was shot near the 200 block of Main Street and was declared deceased by responding fire personnel, the police department said in a statement at the time. A spokesperson said several individuals were seen fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting, and a person exchanged gunfire with a security guard. The guard was not injured in the incident.
Police did not say if Bernstine was a suspect in the attempted shooting of the guard, but they did say he had a prior conviction for attempted murder out of Contra Costa County.
“Suspect Bernstine should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said, noting that the man was still on active parole for the crime in Contra Costa County.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Bernstine, but the man has, so far, not been captured. He is expected to face a murder charge once he is apprehended.
Anyone with information about Bernstine’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Vallejo Police Department at 707-648-4514 or 707-648-5430.
