More than 370 drivers were screened at a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint held in Vallejo last week, the local police department announced on Thursday.
The checkpoint was held near the intersection of Georgia Street and Cedar Street last Friday. The location of the checkpoint was not publicized by the agency; it leaked on social media forums that evening after some drivers started to go through it.
The police department said the location was chosen based on DUI arrest and crash statistics, among other factors. It was operated through a grant issued by a state transportation agency.
Out of more than 370 drivers who went through the checkpoint, 15 were cited for driving with a suspended license or no license at all. One person was arrested for driving under the influence of a substance, while another was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm.
Seven vehicles were impounded at the checkpoint that night, a spokesperson for the Vallejo Police Department said.
