The Vallejo Police Department this week unveiled a new webpage that contains public policy and use-of-force manuals as well as guidance documents on how and when the agency releases certain information to the public.
The webpage is part of the police department’s mission of accountability and transparency, a spokesperson said in a news release sent to the public and reporters on Monday. It comes as the agency continues to draw public scrutiny over several fatal officer-involved shootings in recent years, some of which have led to lawsuits and protests.
“After listening to the community’s concerns and interest surrounding police policies and practices, we hope that this helps to inform our continuing dialogue with the Vallejo community on police practices and reforms within the Vallejo Police Department,” Shawny Williams, Vallejo’s chief of police, said in a statement.
The webpage contains a number of links to documents concerning the Vallejo Police Department, including:
The agency’s various policies and manuals
Use-of-force data collated by the police department
Recruitment and demographic data related to the agency’s hiring practices
Frameworks for dealing with internal misconduct and discipline
Guidance on how members of the public can request additional records
The webpage is part of a broader refresh to the Vallejo Police Department’s website. The agency launched a new website last October.
“This new webpage reinforces the transparency of the new website and the police department’s commitment to collaborating with the Vallejo community,” Brittany Jackson, the agency’s public information officer, said. “We encourage all Vallejo residents to take a few minutes to navigate the new [webpage] in order to participate in the police department’s ongoing conversation about reform within the community.”
