A Vacaville teacher’s winning streak came to an end on Wednesday when the one-day Jeopardy! champion passed his crown to a challenger.
Jeff Mitchum of Dixon answered the Final Jeopardy clue correctly, but he couldn’t catch up to challenger Amanda Ganske, a product marketing manager from Texas who brought more cash into the final round of the quiz show.
Mitchum still walked away with a good payday for his efforts: His take home prize money totaled over $33,000 after he won on his first appearance and came in second place on Wednesday night. (Second place winners receive $2,000 as a consolation prize; his prior day winning was $31,200.)
Mitchum appeared on the national game show earlier this year, but was unable to discuss the specifics of the program until this week due to a non-disclosure clause required by Sony Pictures Television, the producer of the show.
In an interview with local ABC affiliate KXTV (Channel 10), Mitchum said some of the questions on Jeopardy! were tougher than the ones he asks his students at Vacaville High School.
“It was exciting and nerve-wracking all at once,” he told the station.
Jeopardy! can be viewed throughout Solano County weekdays at 7 p.m. on KXTV, except in Vallejo and Benicia where it airs on ABC station KGO-TV (Channel 7) at the same time.
