What started as a recovery for a stolen vehicle on Monday turned into a different kind of criminal investigation, with police in Vacaville now searching for a person who fled from them in a different car.
Around 4:20 p.m., a police camera in the city recorded a license plate on a passing vehicle that was reported stolen earlier in the week.
Police quickly located the vehicle on east-bound Interstate 80 headed toward Dixon, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
The suspected car thief turned the vehicle around, exiting the freeway, then abandoning the car near the intersection of Meridian road and Midway Road. The suspect then got into the passenger seat of a white sedan and took off.
Officers pursued the vehicle for a short time before losing sight of the vehicle. Police initially suspected the second vehicle may have been carjacked, only to later rule out that possibility.
The suspect is now wanted for vehicle theft and evading law enforcement. A description of the suspect was not available as of Monday evening.
The California Highway Patrol and Solano County Sheriff’s Office assisted Vacaville police with their investigation.
