Vacaville police officer killed in crash identified
The Vacaville Police Department has identified a motorcycle officer who was killed in the line of duty on Thursday.
Officer Matthew Bowen joined the Vacaville Police Department last year after serving with the Concord Police Department. He is survived by his wife, two sons, parents and brothers, the police department said in a statement.
A press conference will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive, close to the Arco gas station.
Bowen was engaged in a traffic stop when the collision happened. Multiple vehicles were involved, and the officer was struck by one of the vehicles, according to an eyewitness who spoke with Solano NewsNet.
Bowen was transported to a local trauma center in critical condition, where they later died. The identity of the officer was not known as of Thursday afternoon.
The intersection is expected to be closed throughout the day. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
