A Vacaville police officer died this week after a prolonged illness, the agency said in a social media post on Thursday.
Officials did not say what Sergeant Vince Nadasdy passed away from, but two sources confirmed to Solano NewsNet that he had been diagnosed with cancer. His colleagues learned of his death on Wednesday.
Sergeant Vince Nadasdy joined the Vacaville Police Department in 2002 after his family relocated from Canada, where he also worked as a law enforcement officer.
“Throughout Vince’s tenure with our department, he has been an esteemed colleague, a leader, a mentor and a dear friend,” a police spokesperson wrote on Facebook. “Vince’s love for our community was demonstrated by his commitment to service and stewardship. He made people’s lives better with every interaction.”
Nadasdy worked as a member of the agency’s S.W.A.T. team for more than a decade, as well as a detective with investigative services for six years. He contributed to the Vacaville Fiesta Days Parade as a motorcycle officer and won the agency’s Officer of the Year Award in 2011.
“Vince cared for others selflessly,” the agency said. “He showed up for his brothers and sisters at the Vacaville PD without question.”
Nadasdy is survived by his wife and two sons.
