The Vacaville Fire Department wants residents to be aware of a training burn that is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Firefighters will be carrying out the prescribed burn in the grass hill between Callen Street and Allison Drive starting at 8 a.m.
During the burn, residents and motorists may notice smoke columns coming from the area. Officials say the smoke will not be associated with a wildfire, and residents are urged not to call 9-1-1 if they see smoke coming from that hill.
Officials say the burn will help reduce the risk of wildfire to residents and businesses near the Callen Street hill and provide firefighters with necessary training as the region enters wildfire season.
“This burn will allow for multiple neighboring fire agencies to train together in a controlled setting while removing approximately 15 acres of grass,” a fire department spokesperson wrote in a social media post.
The fire department said it will monitor weather conditions, including wind, and will only carry out the burn if the weather remains favorable for the activity.
The training and prescribed burn is expected to end around noon.
