A pair of suspected car burglars were busted by Vacaville officers early Monday morning thanks to a tip from an alert citizen.
The arrest occurred around 1:45 a.m. in an apartment complex somewhere in town — the agency didn’t provide specifics on the location — after an eyewitness saw two people opening items in the bed of a truck that belonged to his brother.
Officers in the area located a getaway vehicle used by the suspects and initiated a traffic stop. After detaining the suspects, the agency said officers located stolen property inside the vehicle.
A follow-up investigation determined the vehicle used by the suspects was also stolen.
Police arrested Elsy Zapien-Vasquez, 28, of Pittsburg and an accomplice, Omar Lares, 35, of Concord, on various charges related to theft and possession of burglary tools. Both suspects were also cited for violating the conditions of an existing probation sentence.
