A Vacaville Fire Department ambulance that was pulled from service last month due to personnel shortage will return to service after the Independence Day holiday.
On Friday, Vacaville Fire Department Chief Kris Concepcion confirmed to Solano NewsNet that Medic 72 will start operating again on Tuesday, July 5.
Concepcion said several members of the fire department that were on personal or injury-related leave from work will be cleared to return to duty next week, which will allow the ambulance to return to service.
Medic 72 is based at the city’s firehouse on Ulatis Drive and is the busiest ambulance based on calls for service. It was pulled from service last month amid an ongoing staffing shortage coupled with difficulties recruiting new firefighters to the agency, according to Concepcion and a representative of the local fire union.
While Medic 72 was out of service, the city’s four other ambulances responded to emergencies in its place. The city is still in the process of recruiting additional firefighter-paramedics for hire.
