More than 1,400 Pacific Gas & Electric customers are in the dark after a series of problems with PG&E’s utility lines triggered a blackout in Fairfield on Tuesday.
The first problem was reported just before 5 p.m. near a home along the 800 block of Jefferson Street. A resident there reported hearing a loud explosion followed by a loss of electrical power.
A fire crew dispatched to the scene later reported finding a dangling utility line on a pole near the scene of the incident.
Around 5:15 p.m., another blast was heard near the intersection of Utah Street and Harding Street. A caller told fire dispatchers that flames were seen in the backyard of a home in that area shortly after the explosion, though it was not confirmed if anything was on fire.
A short time later, a fire crew said a tree limb was visible dangling across a utility line along Harding Street.
PG&E said it was aware of the incidents and had a crew assigned to investigate what happened and to restore power to affected customers.
