A pair of small earthquakes jolted rural residents living several miles north of Vacaville on Monday.
The twin earthquakes struck around 3 a.m. Monday north of Winters in rural Yolo County, according to information published by the U.S. Geological Survey.
A magnitude-2.9 earthquake rattled a few seconds after 3 a.m. and was followed by a magnitude-2.6 earthquake around 13 minutes later.
Residents in Winters and Davis reported feeling a light shaking, according to the USGS “ShakeMap” feature online.
Earthquakes with epicenters located in Solano and Yolo counties are rare but not unheard of. Typically, strong shaking felt by residents are the result of earthquakes occurring in other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.
