Two people were arrested after a shooting investigation turned into a police pursuit through the streets of Fairfield on Wednesday.
Around 2:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired near a business along the 2500 block of Clay Bank Road. At least one eyewitness said they watched a person in a black sedan fire several shots into the air.
No one was reported injured. Officers later recovered shell casings at the scene.
Within minutes of the shooting, a patrol officer spotted a black Infinity sedan traveling at a high rate of speed near where the shooting was reported. A brief chase ensued before the officer lost sight of the vehicle along Manuel Campos Parkway near Dover Avenue.
Another officer picked up the chase a short time later, and it eventually spilled onto west-bound Interstate 80, with the suspects driving in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The chase came to an end near the Abernathy Road exit, according to dispatches. Two people were taken into custody a short time later.
