A pair of Vallejo residents were arrested over the weekend after a police pursuit turned into an attempted carjacking on a local freeway.
The chase started Saturday around 9:30 p.m. when officers spotted a vehicle that was wanted in connection with an unspecified felony.
When police tried to pull over the vehicle, the suspects drove off, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit that eventually wound up on a nearby freeway.
The suspects lost patrol officers during the freeway chase, but an overhead California Highway Patrol helicopter was able to locate them on Interstate 680 near Highway 4.
“After losing a tire, [the suspects] tried to make a U-turn and collided into the center divide, proceeding to drive the wrong way into oncoming traffic,” a police spokesperson wrote.
After the car became disabled, the pair tried to carjack at least two other vehicles before surrendering to police, video published by the California Highway Patrol showed.
Police identified the suspects as Scot T. Babot, Jr., 28, and 30-year-old Cirelle V. Adams, both of Vallejo. The pair were arrested on a variety of charges, including felony hit-and-run, evading police, attempted carjacking and other felony warrants.
