Commuters who travel along east-bound Interstate 80 through Fairfield will want to take note of a special detour happening this week.
On Monday, Fairfield public works crews will close the West Texas Street off-ramp from Interstate 80 at Auto Mall Parkway, city officials said in a social media post this weekend.
The closure will start at 9 a.m. and is expected to last until 3 p.m.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured onto Auto Mall Parkway. Motorists can re-join West Texas Street by bearing right onto Cadenasso Drive, then making a left turn onto Beck Avenue.
Motorists who regularly exit onto West Texas Street or who use Cadenasso Drive or Beck Avenue as part of their daily commutes should plan their trips accordingly, including to accommodate for the possibility of delays.
City officials said the construction is part of the West Texas Gateway Improvement Project, which will see the installation of a new sidewalk, new bike lanes and better pedestrian crosswalks.
"The Heart of Fairfield Specific Plan identifies this project as a key enhancement and entryway improvement to Downtown Fairfield," officials said.
