Police were forced to close a stretch of Interstate 80 through Vacaville on Friday after a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian on the roadway there.
The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. near the Allison Drive off-ramp from the freeway.
Eyewitnesses told emergency officials that a person was found laying face down in the middle of the roadway. The victim was possibly struck by a passing vehicle and may have come from a nearby homeless encampment.
All lanes of east-bound Interstate 80 were shut down for around two hours while police investigated the incident. Traffic was diverted off the freeway at Peabody Road, with cars allowed to jump back onto the freeway at Nut Tree Parkway.
No other information was available as of early Friday morning.
