Three injured by gunfire in Vallejo

The Vallejo Police Department is investigating a shooting that left three people injured earlier in the week.
The shooting was reported Thursday around 10:15 p.m. along the 1000 block of Caldwell Avenue.
In a local Facebook group, eyewitnesses reporting hearing around a dozen shots, some of which were confused with fireworks.
Officers who were dispatched to the scene later located three people suffering from gunshot wounds. As of Friday, a 27-year-old female and a 16-year-old female were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
A third person, identified by police as an 18-year-old male, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was hospitalized in stable condition.
Police say the victims were sitting in their car at the time of the shooting. Suspect information was not released as of Friday afternoon.
Detectives continue to investigate what happened, and the police department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 707-648-4343 or 707-648-4514.
“This devastating multi-victim shooting is yet another example of why we must have a unified and multi-disciplinary approach to eradicating gun violence in the City of Vallejo,” Shawny Williams, the city’s police chief, said in a statement e-mailed to reporters. “Victims and their families are suffering trauma on a daily basis, and we cannot allow lawless individuals to continue harming our community.”
The police department said it would schedule a series of town hall meetings in neighborhoods impacted by gun violence.
