Three people were arrested when a protest near the entrance of Travis Air Force Base turned rowdy on Thursday, Solano NewsNet has learned.
The protest started around 3 p.m. when activists began blocking traffic at the north gate of Travis Air Force Base, south of the intersection of Canon Road and Gate Road in unincorporated Fairfield.
Motorists became agitated during the rally, and some began confronting protesters. Activists began throwing rocks at vehicles, damaging several of them, according to emergency dispatch traffic.
Fairfield police officers were requested by security personnel at Travis Air Force Base because much of the protest was taking place on streets controlled by the City of Fairfield. At least three people were taken into custody and a number of vehicles were towed from the scene.
The intersection of Canon Road and Gate Road was closed to traffic until around 3:45 p.m.
The incident occurred the same day an activist group called People's Arms Embargo was to protest at the north gate of Travis Air Force Base. The group opposes the sale of weapons to Israel, and said it was targeting Travis Air Force Base for its size and its military transport missions.
