A teenager was arrested over the weekend in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old male, the Fairfield Police Department announced on Monday.
Police began investigating the shooting early Sunday morning after receiving a report of a body found along a set of railroad tracks near State Street.
Officers were initially told the teenager appeared to have been struck by a train. An examination of the body revealed a gunshot wound was the cause of his fatality, police said.
Evidence from the investigation led police to another 14-year-old juvenile, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police declined to release the identities of both the victim and the suspect due to their age. A spokesperson for the police department said there was no current threat to the public.
Those with information about what happened are urged to contact Fairfield Police detectives at 707-428-7600.
