Suisun firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze at a homeless encampment this week.
The fire broke out around 5:15 a.m. Friday in the area of Sunset Avenue and Railroad Avenue. When they arrived on the scene, firefighters say they found a homeless encampment in the creek bed on fire.
"[Firefighters] arrived and helped to search the neighboring encampments to ensure that there was not a need to effect a rescue of other homeless nearby from the growing fire," a fire official wrote in a Facebook post.
Two fire engines were dispatched and began "an aggressive fire attack" when they arrived on the scene, according to an official. The quick efforts of the firefighters helped contain the blaze and keep it from spreading to a nearby apartment complex.
Fire crews have been dispatched to numerous grass fires and other blazes in that area since the start of the summer. Some of the fires are being investigated as suspicious, according to officials.
The start of Friday morning's fire is currently under investigation.
