Suisun City firefighters are using to being called out to all sorts of rescue situations — from people trapped in burning homes to individuals stranded aboard boats in the nearby Montezuma Strait.
But rarely do they encounter a situation with a subject so small, cute and furry.
On Tuesday, a local citizen arrived at an area firehouse with an unusual situation: Her pet guinea pig somehow wedged its head between the metal grates of its cage. Could firefighters help?
Lucky for the citizen, a fire captain with years of ranching experience just happened to be on duty at the time and helped rescue the small animal from its precarious situation.
“He carefully cut the cage and extricated the furry victim,” the fire agency said in a social media post on Tuesday. “Once freed, Captain Brassfield, the pet owner and the guinea pig all squealed in delight.”
The grateful family posed for a socially-distant photo for Facebook before all parties were on their way.
“Just another day at SCFD!” an agency spokesperson said.
