The U.S. Coast Guard, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office and the Suisun City Fire Department worked together on Wednesday to rescue two people who were stranded aboard a boat in the Montezuma Slough.
Around 11 a.m., Suisun City firefighters were called to provide mutual assistance to the U.S. Coast Guard who received a radio call of a boat in distress, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano News Update.
According to fire officials, one passenger aboard the boat was suffering from a respiratory emergency that stemmed from a lack of oxygen in their tank.
Three rescue swimmers from Suisun were sent to help, and the boat was located with the help of aircraft from the Coast Guard and California Highway Patrol. The CHP helped guide the firefighters in to the boat, officials said, where they were able to make contact with the patient and provide medical aid.
“The crew remained on scene with the patient and the vessel for 45 minutes until the Sheriff’s vessel arrived from Rio Vista,” Suisun fire officials said in a social media post. “The Sheriff’s boat towed the [stranded] vessel back to Suisun City and one firefighter rode along with the patient to monitor his condition on the way back.”
Suisun Fire officials said it was the first such rescue with the agency’s new boat and they were pleased with the outcome of the situation.
