A Suisun City volunteer firefighter who gave 22 years of his time, effort and dedication will retire by the end of the month, the fire agency said in a social media post last week.
Lupe Benitez came to Suisun City in 1999 and promptly started his firefighting career as a volunteer engineer, a position he’s held for more than two decades, the agency said.
“He has been a resident of Suisun City for all 22 years and has been committed to making a difference as a volunteer firefighter in his community,” an agency spokesperson said.
Benitez now says he wants to retire, move back to Mexico and seek firefighting opportunities there, the fire agency said.
“The Suisun City Fire Department wishes him the best of luck in his new adventures,” a spokesperson wrote.
