Suisun City firefighters assisted emergency personnel from several local agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday with a water rescue in the Montezuma Slough.
The incident began late Sunday evening when fire personnel received a request for assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard in Vallejo after being dispatched to a stranded boat with three people aboard.
Suisun City firefighters said they responded with urgency due to increasing wind and currents combined low dropping temperatures.
Three people were rescued with the assistance of the fire department, including a child who later posed for photos with fire rescue personnel. All three were evaluated for hypothermia and voluntarily declined additional medical treatment, authorities said.
Suisun City firefighters are regularly dispatched to provide marine-based assistance to the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies. The agency has a water rescue team and several pieces of equipment, including GPS devices, spotlights and drysuits, that makes their assistance crucial with night-time water rescues.
