State officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate at the California State Prison in Vacaville over the weekend.
On Sunday, Vacaville medics were dispatched to the prison after receiving a report of an unknown injury to an inmate. Prison officials performed CPR while the medic crew was en route, according to dispatches reviewed by Solano NewsNet.
The inmate died from their injuries. The exact circumstances of what led up to the injury has not been revealed, nor has the identity of the inmate.
Officials with the Office of the Inspector General said a team was dispatched to the prison along Peabody Road around 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The officials will oversee the prison’s internal investigation into what happened.
The Inspector General’s Office routinely sends personnel to state prisons when an inmate dies from something other than natural causes.
