An hours-long standoff that drew officers from two local police departments has come to a safe end.
The situation started just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday when Fairfield police were called to a reported assault at a home along the 3100 block of Fieldcrest Avenue.
When they arrived, two people inside the home were able to flee to safety, but a man at the center of the incident barricaded himself inside the home.
A source familiar with the situation told Solano NewsNet the man at the center of the incident was reportedly having a mental breakdown. Police are treating the situation with extreme caution because they had credible information that firearms, knives and other weapons are inside the home, the source said.
Fairfield officers remained on the scene overnight, with the standoff dragging on so long that police eventually called him assistance from their counterparts in Vacaville, who took over negotiations early Wednesday morning.
After deploying pepper balls and other chemical agents inside the home, the subject was greeted at the front door by a police K-9. He was taken into custody around noon and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
