The Solano County Department of Health and Social Services says it is expanding the availability of Pfizer-developed coronavirus (COVID-19) booster shots to individuals who are between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
The move comes in accordance with federal, state and local guidance that says COVID-19 booster shot are effective in preventing symptoms associated with the coronavirus. Last week, the Federal Drug Administration authorized COVID-19 booster shots for children.
“Getting a booster dose [to prevent symptoms from] COVID-19 provides an extra layer of protection to keep your child safe and healthy,” Dr. Bela Matyas, the Solano County Public Health Officer, said in a statement.
Matyas said the Solano County Public Health Division has seen a steep decline in parents having their children immunized and getting them check-ups since the pandemic began two years ago.
“We encourage parents to schedule routine visits with their child’s healthcare provider to get their child’s immunizations up to date and prepare them for the following school year,” Matyas said.
