A winter storm dumped a significant amount of rain on Northern California on Tuesday, though Solano County was largely spared from the worst of the storm.
Rain began falling in north Solano County around lunchtime Tuesday, with showers showing mild to moderate strength from that point on.
The most-significant amount of rain fell in the higher elevations of the county, with the Vaca Mountain region west of Winters receiving more than three inches of rain in the 24-hour period ending at midnight on Wednesday.
Suburban cities within the county saw significantly less activity, with most communities clocking in at well under an inch of rain.
Here are the 24-hour rainfall measurements for Solano County as of midnight Wednesday:
Benicia: 0.03 in.
Dixon: 0.06 in.
Fairfield: 0.39 in.
Rio Vista: 0.11 in.
Suisun City: 0.04 in.
Travis Air Force Base: 1.62 in.
Vaca Mountains: 3.26 in.
Vacaville: 0.22 in.
Vallejo: 1.02 in.
Weather forecasters say showers and a rare thunderstorm are possible over portions of the Sacramento Valley, though these are expected to be isolated events. Northern and eastern portions of Solano County were included in an advisory graphic published by the National Weather Service on Tuesday, but the strongest chance of thunderstorms is well north of the region.
Any thunderstorms that do develop are likely to bring brief downpours, hail and lightning.
Shower activity will weaken as the week progresses, and forecasters say Friday will bring a return to dry conditions and sunshine that will last through the weekend.
Rain could return to the area as soon as next Tuesday, though computer models used by weather forecasters still on sure where these showers might occur, if they develop at all.
