Solano County will receive nearly $5 million in state funds for a road infrastructure improvement project on Highway 12 near Rio Vista, officials with the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) announced on Friday.
The money comes from a pool of nearly $700 million allocated and awarded by the California Transportation Commission. More than $270 million of those funds come from taxes generated through Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), also known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
“This critical investment will help CalTrans continue repairing, maintaining and upgrading our state’s aging transportation infrastructure for improved safety and sustainability,” Steven Keck, the acting director of CalTrans, said in a statement.
In Solano County, $4.77 million will be awarded for a transit infrastructure project that will see improvements to the roadway along a stretch of Highway 12 just west of Rio Vista.
According to CalTrans, the money will be used to resurface the pavement, upgrade guardrails and drainage systems and to improve curb ramps, so they meet standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The project is slated to take place between Currie Road and Azevedo Road, CalTrans said.
The Highway 12 infrastructure project was the only improvement plan awarded money this week.
